Plant details

Meet this plant.

The apple that made "crisp" a selling point — explosively juicy, honey-sweet, and famous for a snap you can hear.

Honeycrisp was bred at the University of Minnesota and released in 1991, and it changed what shoppers expect from a fresh apple. Its oversized, coarse cells rupture when you bite, releasing a flood of juice balanced between bright tartness and honeyed sweetness. The skin is a mottled red over a yellow-green ground, and the flesh stays cream-white and refuses to go mealy — even after months in cold storage. It is a true cold-climate apple, thriving where many varieties struggle, and it is just as at home fresh out of hand as it is in salads, slaws, and rustic pies.

Why growers choose the Honeycrisp

  • Signature texture. Unusually large cells give that crisp, shattering crunch and a juicy explosion no other supermarket apple quite matches.
  • Honey-sweet, balanced flavor. High sugar lifted by enough acid to keep it lively, not flat or cloying.
  • Genuinely cold-hardy. Bred in Minnesota for harsh winters, it performs reliably in USDA zones 4 through 8.
  • Exceptional keeper. Stored cool, the fruit holds its crunch and flavor for months — far longer than most home-grown apples.
  • Manageable size. At a mature 8 to 10 feet, it fits a backyard, fence line, or a sunny corner without taking over.

Whether you have room for a single specimen by the patio or want to anchor a small home orchard, Honeycrisp rewards a sunny, well-drained spot with fruit that genuinely tastes better than what you can buy.

Delivery & arrival
You receive a live plant in the selected size. Fruit photos may show mature growth, not the plant at delivery.

Chill hours
Approximately 800–1,000 chill hours.
Pollination
Requires a compatible apple cultivar with overlapping bloom; use a listed pollination pack when available.
Container growing
Best in the ground; long-term container growing requires a very large pot and size-control pruning.
Typical fruiting time
Typically begins fruiting in 2–5 years depending on rootstock, arrival size, and care.
Winter care
Protect young or container-grown plants during severe freezes.
Delivery eligibility
Final delivery eligibility is confirmed at checkout; state agricultural restrictions may apply.

USDA zones describe average annual extreme minimum temperatures, not summer heat, humidity, soil, sunlight, chill accumulation, or every microclimate.

Questions about plant options, delivery, tracking, or an order? Inty is here to help before and after your purchase.

Will my plant look exactly like the photo?

Live plants naturally vary in height, branching, leaf count, color, and shape. Photos show the variety and typical presentation.

Can items arrive separately?

Yes. Plants can have different preparation times and packaging needs, so one order may receive more than one tracking number.

What should I do when it arrives?

Unpack promptly, inspect the plant, water only when needed, and let it acclimate before making major care changes.
